The shop that makes you want to visit the store

Möbelland Hochtaunus runs a furniture store with a large showroom near Frankfurt, with kitchens and baby equipment in the range and its own online shop. Most furniture purchases start online and end in the showroom. That gives the shop a double opportunity, and we sorted it out together with the team.

Selling and inviting at once

Most people only buy a sofa or a kitchen after sitting on it and getting advice. Customers research online, compare styles and prices, then drive to the store. Many order smaller furniture and accessories straight online, comfortably from the sofa.

For a shop next to a large showroom, that means it sells where customers want to buy online and prepares the visit where they want to see the store. Both jobs share the same space, above all on the homepage. The most interesting decision is what the shop deliberately leaves to the showroom. Make it clearly and both channels get a tailwind.

Ranges sorted, homepage rearranged

We started with a clear split. Together with the team we worked out which ranges can close online and which mainly feed the visit. With kitchens, advice and planning usually carry the sale. With accessories, a good product photo is often enough. This split is the basis for all further prioritisation.

A roadmap grew out of it. Wireframes followed for the key pages, above all the homepage, which we rearranged accordingly. The wireframes make the split tangible for everyone involved. If you want to buy online, you find the direct route. If you want to visit the store, you get the reasons why. We debated most intensely what the shop deliberately leaves out, because every decision there is also a decision for the showroom.

A shop with a clear role pulls with the showroom

With retailers who have a large showroom, we often see the wish for the shop to do everything the store can. We prefer to give it a clear job. Some ranges it sells itself, for others it makes people want to visit. Make that split first and you save many debates later and can sharpen page by page. The homepage then shows the decision at a glance, and the store gets a shop that works for the showroom.
